Hi, I’m Manuel, a Toronto-based designer currently exploring the creative fields of product design (ux/ui), iOS development, and 3D printing.

My story begins like this . . .

It was 2009 when I decided to improve and apply my problem-solving skills to real life problems, so I decided to pursue a Bachelor and a Master in Engineering. During this time, I not only got to solve real life problems, but learnt to systematically approach problem solving from an evidence-based framework (you also know this as the Scientific Method). My studies also led me to explore design from a technical point of view in the form of CAD, 3D design, and algorithmic solutions design. After all the schooling, I kept developing my 3D design and new-found 3D printing skills on the side while working in Project Management. Work was good but I also found that I was craving for a creative outlet in my everyday work, so I started looking for a career path that combines the two things I like to do best: problem solving and creative design.   

In 2018, I came across Product Design and I felt I found the perfect solution to my search. After talking to other designers to learn about the ins-and-outs of the industry, I decided to take some time off to attend BrainStation and formalize my learning.  

After completing their full-time User Experience Design program in 2019, I continued to expand my knowledge by attending hackathons, design-a-thons, and design conferences; also, by reading relevant books and taking courses such as web design and data analytics for web designers.

Product design is what I like to do. It is creative problem solving that incorporates human-centered design and design thinking in an evidence-based framework. It is the creation of products that provide meaningful and relevant experiences for humans. Ultimately, design is intelligence made visible.
